Club Championships and GDHL Banquet Weekend

This weekend is a big one for us, the GDHL’ers! On Saturday we have two races, one Slalom, one GS to determine the Club Champions, then we have our end of year banquet in the evening. It will be a busy day! For more details read on, you will also find the weekly update from our coach, Glenn Blaylock.

Club Championships

Saturday is Club Championships for Craigleith. All GDHL’ers are automatically entered in the two races, one Slalom, one GS. The start order does not follow the GDHL start list, it follows age and gender, so you will need to pick up your bib for the day on Saturday morning. You will find them in the race office, or possibly in the president’s loft in the old south, between 8 15 and 9 am on Saturday. Make sure to pick yours up.

Following the day’s races there will be an awards ceremony on the Base Lodge patio, where the club champions will be crowned. Many of you will also have an opportunity at some hardware, since you are all spectacular racers! Make sure you stick around before you head home to change for the GDHL Banquet dinner which begins at 7 pm in the base lodge.

GDHL Banquet

A message from Carrie and the GDHL Social Team

You have one (1) more opportunity to buy your tickets for the banquet so you won't have to sit at home Saturday night, being sad and lonely. Wishing you could be in on all the fun.

Today (Thursday, March 2nd) at 5pm is the cut off... officially. No more time after that - plus the ladies going to Ladies Day will be otherwise occupied and the men will be either child minding (not babysitting) or figuring out what to eat for dinner and what to pack for the weekend,

  • Date: Saturday, March 4th - 7-11pm

  • Where: Base Lodge

  • Who: Everybody but especially those who raced this year

  • Cost: $90/ticket

  • BYOW (Bring your own wine) for corkage covered by the GDHL. For pairing purposes, we will be having chicken and pork.

  • Music by the King Davis Band

  • GDHL participants will also get a cool giveaway as well!

Good luck everybody (especially the women) in Club Champs on Saturday!

Coaches Tip: Leveling the Hips

During the Transition between turns we allow the outside leg to bend or shorten to prevent the body from rising up away from the snow. This action also levels the hips returning the body to the Athletic Stance square over the skis.  Sometimes; especially on steep terrain, the velocity of the outside ski may not be sufficient for the leg to level the hips. When this happens lift the heal of the outside leg as it bends or shortens during the transition. This action will level your hips and enable you to more easily start the new turn and stack the body over the new outside ski. This is a very subtle movement and should not cause the body to rise or pop up.

Deb Armstrong (former U.S.A. Ski Team) provides a very good explanation of why its important to level the hips in her following video.

Good Luck this weekend!
