The first snow has fallen at the Club, the first World Cup races are this weekend. Are you keeping up with the keeners? The first indicator of being on the leading edge is having signed up for GDHL and race training. Now from the perspective of maximizing the Club's revenue, the optimal member is the one who signs up for Christmas camp at the beginning of December, cancels on Christmas Eve when the snow is looking dicey (incurring the 30% administrative fee) then re-registers at the end of the first day when he sees how much fun everyone is having (incurring the 20% late premium). Total $496 (and I'm told this has happened). Meanwhile, the well-prepared racer will sign up for Christmas Camp by the 31 October early bird deadline ($276), saving almost enough to pay for GDHL at the same time ($226), and of course will sign up for the nine week program at the same time.
In case you're worried about staying on the clickway, that busy worker bee, Byron D, has prepared a detailed set of illustrated instructions for registering on the Club website.
The keen competitor also invests in careful preparation of his equipment. When there's no snow on the ground, turn your attention to other ways of getting ready. Here is a newly built tuning bench and ski rack (on the backside) that features a biscuit-joined oak work surface and is readily disassembled for portability. I particularly like the way the brushes are hung to allow the bristles to breathe when not in use. And I'm told the big blocks of wax are hollowed out to disguise the storage for hi-fluoro products.
Another of your competitors is clearly mixing special potions, or maybe he just wants to save the poster from smoke damage!
Meanwhile, some of your Craigleith competitors are now four weeks and counting to Michel Pratte's race training and ski improvement camp at Sun Peaks. See here for details of how to join them. And see below for the Canadian men's team training in Argentina.
And Ted Ligety training in New Zealand.
So how do you get to ski like that? Go back to the top and follow the instructions to register!
Back with more GDHL news soon!
