GDHL Registration Cut Off - Tuesday, December 15th!

Happy Holidays! This special edition of the GDHL Newsletter is being sent as a reminder to sign up NOW! We have instituted a strict registration cut off at 11:59 pm on Tuesday, December 15th, so if you are interested in racing with us, you must register asap. Register Here

Also, there are some newsworthy items covered below. This year we have made the decision to move all athletes to team-based racing and details on this decision are outlined. The 2021 Calcutta will not happen, neither live nor virtual, however we have improved our fantasy GDHL platform for a fun way to get some wagers involved in the ski racing! For more details on everything you need to know right now, keep reading. Please keep in mind that the GDHL, like all recreational organizations, is playing with moving targets and news you read today can quickly become out of date as developments are made by the many stakeholders involved in our league. This channel will continue to be the most current stream of information for your racing so save us to your safe-senders list in your email or visit the News tab on our website GDHL.org.

Registration:

As mentioned above, registration will be strictly cut off at 11:59 pm, on Tuesday, December 15th. If you have questions about registration before then, be sure to reply to this newsletter. Your GDHL committee will be watching for your queries. The list of GDHL registrants is included at the very end of this newsletter.

This year, all racers will get an opportunity to be on the WINNING TEAM!

Team Participation

In response to the current state of affairs at Craigleith and the changing attitudes of our racers we will be moving to a league of only team ski-racers. The major reason for this is managing groups of people on the race course. Details will not be explained here but, simply put, organizing 10 teams is easier than organizing 8 teams and 20 individual racers.

For those of you who have registered as individuals we will gladly convert you to racing in a team and we believe that, if you have some concerns about racing on a team, we can help. Most importantly, without the Calcutta and the traditional team purchases an individual ski racer will not be financially letting down their team, or their team’s owner, with poor performances. Maybe the second most important change with this season is that our ski racer scoring is going to be far simpler, without a four-race minimum, enabling all skiers to contribute points to their teams. The GDHL committee will be working for you to ensure the best possible product for you to enjoy on the hill this year.

For those wondering how this may impact future years the answer is simple: as of right now our decisions on how to operate this year are based on this year alone.

Finally, if you have read the above in its entirety and feel that you still would like to opt out because you signed up as an individual and you cannot race any other way you, may write the committee by replying to this email, or gdhl@gdhl.org, explaining your situation.

Calcutta

Without the ability to congregate for our annual Calcutta, the GDHL committee will wait until later in the season to engage in virtual social events. This means that information usually shared at the Calcutta will be sent through the newsletter and hosted on the GDHL.org website. Those of you who would like to keep your wager winning streaks going will be excited to join our 2021 GDHL Fantasy League.

GDHL Fantasy League

This has now been teased a few times, however it may be our most exciting off-season development this year. We have engaged a Fantasy Sports App to host our data and enable the users to check their rankings from their phones. To enable everybody to join the fantasy league we will offer affordable buy in rates and for those high rollers in the crowd we will ensure you have an opportunity to reap greater rewards as well.
