The 2026 GDHL Season is just around the corner, and we are looking forward to seeing you on the hills in December! Hopefully all of that alleged off-season conditioning pays off!

Welcome Back! …and welcome for the first time!

For those that are receiving this newsletter for the first time, welcome to the GDHL! These newsletters are generally sent on Thursday mornings during the season, and sporadically prior to January.

Weekly news is sent out via this newsletter, while time-sensitive info is distributed through our WhatsApp Group.

Registration

The 2026 season is already shaping up to break registration records. If you have not yet registered, remember to do so in the Alpine Programs section of the Club Website.

December 1st is the deadline for registration.

We are working towards making sure all that want to race, will be able to race. Stay patient with us as we process all registrations.

Remember - you must commit to at least four races to participate in 2026.

2026 Race Schedule (Subject To Change)

For those that need to plan ahead, below is the race schedule for 2026. This will also be posted on the GDHL.org website in the future. Please note this is subject to change. All races scheduled for 12:30pm start, with course inspection prior to 12:30pm start.

  • Monday December 29th - Time Trials (highly encouraged for new racers, returning racers is optional)

  • Saturday January 3rd - Calcutta Opening Event - Depot

  • Sunday January 4th - Giant Slalom

  • Saturday January 10th - Giant Slalom

  • Friday January 16th - Night Slalom (evening start)

  • Saturday January 17th - Slalom

  • TBD - Mid Year Apres at North Lodge

  • Sunday February 1st - Super G

  • Saturday February 7th - Slalom

  • Saturday February 14th - Ski Cross

  • Sunday February 22nd - Dual Slalom

  • Saturday March 7th - Club Championships

  • Saturday March 7th - GDHL Awards Apres (was in the South Lodge but now…)

Remember - all races are followed by mandatory Apres. Prizes awarded for excellence in all things Apres and Race!

Team Scoring

For those new to the GDHL, the league operates mainly as a team-based competition. Teams are comprised of the highest skilled racers, those new to the sport, and everyone else in between. Prior to the season starting, your GDHL committee ranks all racers from first (Ben Williams and Mike Welton just barely hanging on...), to worst (many many names to be added here…). We then employ our best efforts to make teams as evenly distributed as possible.

Points are awarded based on your finish spot each race.

Each racer’s best 4 races from the season are then added up. Those points are then combined for all teammates to calculate the team score.

Prizes (and big $$$ from the Calcutta proceeds) are awarded for the top three teams.

Rules - equipment

More explanation of the rules to come, but in preparation for your 2026 racing season please keep the following equipment rules in mind. No changes to our previous season’s rules.

  • Downhill suits are absolutely, totally, unequivocally BANNED. (Except for the Super G and Club Champs races). Leave that spandex alone.

  • Helmets are required. Make sure you have hard ears on those helmets.

  • Tune up those skis and make sure your bindings are set to the right levels. (..ahem Brent Addison…)
